i was really enjoying this site and liked coming here but now i see how someone who a mod is acting and i dont even want to come back I feel like if you are given that position you should at least attempt to act the maturity level. Im sure nik is going to have some little come back that probably has something to do with how smart or new to the tread I am but that will just prove my point. I don't believe a Mod should be part of a petty little fight and should not threaten to kick someone for voicing their opinions which is what a forum is for. just saying.

Fair enough, but please try to understand that Moderators are Members as well. That means they have a right to post & squabble with the rest of you. And FWIW, the "threat" was not because Culp voiced his opinion, it was because he argued with him about an official decision. That is not allowed, as I previously explained.

And, even though I'm a MOD, I'm a member first. I enjoy the interaction, the debates and the banter. When another member wants to test the waters, I will respond in like kind.

I do have the responsibilities of being a MOD and do have to don that hat from time to time. When I do though, I make sure to let the person know the rules they've violated and warn that continuance won't be accepted.
I never use the powers of MOD to settle a squabble, as you've seen, not only because of etiquette but because there are guidelines that MODS have to follow as well.

Your relationship with Culp, notwithstanding, shouldn't color what is actually going on. He knew what he was getting into when he popped off. You, unfortunately, didn't. That's why I haven't been brutal with you.

Well, I don't know all the particulars about each of the members in question BUT since this thread has been resurrected by the Man I will comment on the information @ hand:

From reading this thread, and this thread ONLY Nik DOES in fact appear to be an overly aggressive moderator and I can see how a new member would feel unwelcome from Nik's rhetoric.

We that have been around the boards since the BB days have grown callous to the taunts and pokes we give one another and we forget, at times, that there are some that are not used to it, especially in today's kinder gentler atmosphere.

I've looked at my own history for example and have gone back over the last 10 years or so of posts as a Moderator and Administrator and I see how I evolved from a dictatorial monster to a much more open minded person and even handed Admin. Even recently I've decided to accept members on their merit and to take previous instances of fuckery with a grain of salt.

Bottom line:

1. We're human. We make mistakes.

2. Taking these forums seriously, especially since almost NONE of us make any more than a few $$ from them is sorta silly. for me and my forum 2011 was the start of me changing my constant tweaking and worrying over membership stats and to just have fun .. its working, I enjoy my own site again.
