You do or you wouldn't of post in here.

If Metallica produces a rap album, you would buy it and say it's awesome. Because you love the mainstream media. Don't be a follower be a leader.

Metallica? Sell Outs? OMG!!!

No, seriously though, If you had told me back in the early 90's that Metallica was going to be one of the biggest bands on the planet, to the point of being featured in video games & shit, I'd have jumped for joy. I imagine you would have as well. So why hate on them now that they actually DID it?

Fuck Metallica, they sucked after One came out. When they started to make MTV videos, I said fuck them. SELL-OUTS. Not good enough for their fans, that's one of the reason why Jason Newstand left.

Sellouts, always did think that was a retarded term.It would be better if all bands stayed in the garage making shitty sounding cassette tapes and played small clubs?

Some may not like what Metallica has become...but selling out may be a bit harsh.Even selling rights for video games and shit like that doesn`t mean they sold out to the fans.Consider it passing on to new generations.

I think " growing up " may be a better term.

Seriously..we cant hang out all day with no jobs drinking beer and skateboarding.

I've always been a Metallica fan,I don't necessarily like everything they've done but it doesn't take away the fact they know how to rock.People can whine about this and that but at the end of the day,Metallica's fans will still be there.

Agreed.

Para is one of those types that likes to run his pecker warmers without thinking through what he types.

What would he have they or any mainstream music group do ?

Play in the streets ?

Hell, unless they go unplugged and play in broad daylight they are already running the in red ledger before they even hit one note.

I think what guitar hero has done is pretty neat. They have taken songs from almost every genre and shared them with a new generation. Songs from Stevie Ray Vaughn,ZZ Top, The Beatles, and now Metallica will be remembered by someone under 30.

Jason Newstand left because he was a fuck up to begin with. The reason he left Ozzy.

I like Metallica. I liked their just starting out stuff better than todays .

I wasnt happy about Metallica starting the whole stealing music from internet case...Kinda felt like they let us down, on the other hand they went on to declare that this is a business... then did a free concert in a parking lot? Im not sure what these guys are thinking. I dont care. I like my old CD's ( and cassettes) , Im good.

Why wouldn't they do "Guitar Hero"?

There is so much effin' money in video games (Tony Hawk, John Madden), to thumb your nose at a multi-million dollar payday for using your likeness and songs? Puh-leese. Like any of us wouldn't.

Can you define sell-out for me?Compromising your integrity, usually for money. Its that simple. This word is mostly used to describe bands that go mainstream

In your own definition then you're wrong.I can't see how they've compromised their integrity. They still play the same kind of music, maybe not as good of music to some) but they still play with the same amount of energy and enthusiasm as always.

You seem to think just because they've made money it makes them a sellout,I say it just means a lotta fuckin' people likes their music.

What does "Guitar Hero" have to do with integrity?

What does "Guitar Hero" have to do with integrity?

Anyone who sacrifices artistic integrity in an effort to become more successful or popular (generally in music); someone who forgets their roots.

What about Load and ReLoad, they only put them records out to make money.

I honestly think that they were trying to explore new artistic ground with those albums.

Please note, I think that 'Metallica' was their last really good album. But I think the same thing about 'Youthenasia' by Megadeth, and for the same reasons. I would never call them sell outs though.

I liked both cds'. To me there was good music on both, every song on them wasn't "Master of Puppets" quality but I still liked them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't "Guitar Hero" just take their existing music and use their image? They are not creating new music just for the game.

I understand the theory of sellout. I was at Gilman when Tim Armstrong of Rancid shouted into the mic (and I quote) "Fuck MTV. Fuck major labels". I consider them sellouts.

Green Day, on the other hand, never took that stance. I do not consider them sellouts, even though they helped kill punk, and I fucking hate them.

Anyone on Fat Wreckords has sold out, because, once signed, all artists sound like NOFX.

With that being said, I don't understand how the guys in Metallica are "sellouts" for green-lighting a video game.

Exactly. If anything, it'll help spread their music to a broader horizon...hence here, gamers.

Aerosmith was put on guitar hero....are they sellouts, too? No. Any band that rises to the status of being put in a video game only signifies the love their fanbase shows by idolizing them. In my eyes, it's more of a tribute to a great band than anything else.

I think they basically figured out that they could either remain "true" and work for pennies each night, or "sell out" and laugh all the way to the bank.

After giving it a long thought, they came to the realization that fans, the industry and the world in general couldn't give a flying fuck about them, so they might as well get as rich as they could while they could. It's business, people. Only business

It sounds like you think cuz they make money, they're selling out.I just don't see it that way.Does the guy in the park with his guitar case open playing for money sell out also?
