Here is one we had for a few years. 1969 Plymouth Satellite 4 door. Was the same body style as the Road Runner. Had a 318 engine. Even though small compaired to the 383 or 440's, it would still get down, and those engines lasted forever.

Until my wife sold it, all the owners had been women. Back in that day, there was no pollution stuff, so you could almost stand inside the hood compartment to work on it.

Had only 70,000 miles on it. We had all the history on it as well, including the original dealer window sticker.

Purchase price on that car back in 1969?........... $3,775.00

Only bad thing about those old cars, is they had no power assisted brakes, and they were drum breaks all the way around. So you gave yourself plenty of room to stop.

That's why so many folks wrecked those muscle cars in the day. You could go fast, but couldn't stop.

Feel free to show what you had/have.

I'm sure most of TIA has an "Old car"

I had a "Fury III" I believe. may have said "II"

That thing had a lot of power, and was heavy as hell. I used to always talk about driving it through someone's living room on purpose.

It's a nice car but red is not a good color for it.

Actually Para it was more of an orange color, but had faded a bit. Remember how Mopar did that back in the late 60's and 70's with the muscle cars? Painted them orange, lime green, lemon yellow, and that messed up nasty butterscotch color.

I love old cars!

In terms of performance, what will be the difference between:

a 318 engine, a 383 and 440?

please don't say... a 440 have more power... no..no.. I want real stats.

My mom had a dodge coronet 440. It had a lot lot of power, but was heavier than a small city.

Up at the one classic car place by us, they have an AMC Gremlin with a 440 in it. It's purple, and they call it "Plum Crazy" after like the Hot Wheels car. I bet that bitch gets down. I think the Gremlins look cool.

I hope they beefed the rest of the car up before dropping that motor in it.

Back in '69 I worked part time for a Chrysler dealer. The dealers son, my brother in-law, used to race funny cars on the drag strips with the dealership being the sponsor. He also drove a little on local round tracks. After he married my sister, he quit racing.

About that time, they were starting up the precursor to the Bush League. The dealer sponsored a car with another driver. We bought one of Richard Petty's last year cars. We tore it apart and rebuilt it for the smaller tracks. After one race with the original Petty engine, we took it out and put in one we had built.

About that same time, one of our customers had blown the 383 engine in his '68 RoadRunner for the third time. We towed it in and he traded it in on a "fuddy duddy" car as he called it, as he was planning on driving to the west coast later that week.

As he was a very good customer and a friend of the dealer and service manager, he was given a real good deal. So good, the dealership couldn't have made any money if we had rebuilt, or replaced the engine with a new one. So we put the Petty engine in the RoadRunner.

A fully race built 426 Hemi.

One of my jobs was gofer. I was 16 at the time. They would send me 30 miles to a nearby city to pick up parts and stuff. I would use a car off the used car lot to make the runs. After we got that one running, it was my car of choice until it was sold.

I still think they were crazy to let me dive that car, but I managed to live.

It was my all time favorite muscle car. If I had owned it I wouldn't have lived past 16.

Take the lettering off, replace the wheels with mags and this is what it looked like:

My second car was my all time favorite driving and riding car. A 1966 Pontiac Le Mans, Mine was a midnight metallic blue:

My first car was a 1970 Dodge Challenger. Rust color. Paid $5600. Had it almost a year with a little over 6,000 miles, just put brand new wider tires and it got squashed like a bug. My brother was going to change the oil for me, so he took it for a spin around the block to warm it up alittle. He was less than a half mile from home when someone made a left turn into him as he was going straight. They first said they didn't see him then changed their story to him speeding. The officer didn't buy it.

My car was totalled. Everything was smushed up against the engine. Their insurance paid me $5200 which I added a couple more grand to and bought me a 1972 Dodge Charger. Gold w/matching gold landau roof, flip-up headlights and mag wheels. That car was my pride and joy. And fast.

I wish I could find the site again. There was one I had posted a while back, about old junker cars in yards & barns & stuff, but in England.
