six meals a day (none larger than the palm of your hand) and healthy low fat...2 snacks with lots of protein fewer calories. water water water....and exercise. Yeah I know it works for me unless my hormones are a mess. hard boiled eggs, fruits like melon (more water than anything)..

the biggest trick is keeping metabolism running constantly without over eating. The less you eat the more your body will store it in case of famine.

lol great so until we go grocery shopping again my body is just going to store

Actually, it's simple. Eat less, exercise more. Exercise can be anything, walking, swimming (the best) bike riding, running, sit ups, push ups, weights. If you do use weights, use very light weights and do many, many repetitions.

Tawni is right about eating several very small meals, instead of three big ones also.

But, you said you have lost 5lbs in six weeks. To keep weight off, it's best to lose it slow and steady. The rate you say you are losing at, is almost too fast. Crash diets never seem to work, except for losing fast and then gaining it right back just as fast.

Cut out processed foods. If it's in a box, it's processed. Cut back on carbohydrates, increase fresh, or frozen veggies, not in cans. Cut out processed sugar, get it instead from fruits. Eat lean meat. Eat fish and shrimp. But don't fry them. Reduce your salt intake.

Quit soft drinks, drink water instead.

Reduce, or eliminate alcohol, it turns into sugar in your body.

Don't reward yourself by binging on food when you do lose weight. But do eat some comfort food as you go along. Just small amounts.

P90X and your food triangle should fix you up. Your body NEEDS to have the nutrients and calories from regular meals, so the concept of dieting has the potential to do more harm than good. The trick is to get in the habit of using the fuel you imbibe.

I work with this fellow, let's call him "John". Now John is built. He earns it, of course, by exercising daily. The thing is, I have never in my LIFE seen anyone eat like this dude. He regularly puts away half a sheet pizza on our half hour lunch break. No exaggeration. He stays perfectly fit though, because his body honestly metabolizes all of that.

Methamphetamine works too!

One thing I've always done, although it may not work for you because of location, is to walk to the store to do your grocery shopping.

that half gallon of ice cream or 12 pack of pepsi doesn't seem as appetizing when you have to carry it a mile or so.

storm i am like that guy or was, when i was riding a bike 12 hours or more(i was young), i could put 10 double cheese burgers away no problem, no i can max do two doubles and a mc chicken, and that tipping the scales, lol

now i am eating less at a time but more offen , and i ride to work so that 6.4 miles a day(coveed in about a half hour). but babe ill work with you we can work out and shit.

i do 50 reps of fifty pounds curls, 50 to 100 crunches, and 1 push ups, or at least i try to.

Keep in mind, weight loss is vastly different for men a woman.

I was reading in a medical journal, and it said for every week that a woman abstains from any sexual activity of any kind, she will lose 5lbs.

I know not of this book of witch you speak.

sex is an physical activity, you burn calories during sex, the more vigorous, or more often, or longer the more you will burn.

Unless it has to do with a divorce,..then a woman can drop a ton of weight. Which leaves her "ex" saying,..well if you took care of yourself and looked like that while we were married,..I wouldn't have canned ya!

A "diet" is not a weight loss tool. It's the selection of food and drink you take in.

Dieting is NEVER good. It confuses the body. You will lose weight, but the more times you diet, the more you train your body to hold on to fat reserves. Net result, loss in muscle mass and more fat packed back on when you go off your diet.

This is VERY bad for several reason. Muscles burn calories.
Your best bet is what some have mentioned. CHANGE your diet. Get off the sugars, the excess carbs and most importantly EXERCISE.

Don't go by weight... or clothes size.
Get naked in front of a mirror. You'll know when you're satisfied with how you look.

Best of luck

Agree with Baldy. One thing no one's mentioned - if you're breast-feeding don't cut back too much as you need to make sure you're getting the required calories to produce good milk.

Basil,...the most important thing is to do what feels best for you.

Remember, on the internet, everybody thinks they are a closet lawyer, diet expert, car machanic,..or whatever. And 99% out of 100,.... are usually totally full of shit.

Be yourself, be you, live how you want to live.

That's my advice.

Cut back on carbohydrates

One thing about the cutting back on carbs bit.
Carbs are what give you energy. Carbs are what the brain uses for fuel. Do not make drastic cuts. In fact, if anything, rely MORE on them.

Nutrition experts generally agree that 55 percent to 60 percent of your total daily calories should come from carbohydrates.

Complex carbs actually burn more calories to break down than simple carbs. Try to make your diet rich in these.

But, avoid loading up only on low-fiber, starchy carbohydrates — such as potatoes and processed grains like white rice, pasta and white bread. These carbohydrates are more rapidly converted to simple sugars by your body.

Try to eat plenty of complex carbohydrates that include a good dose of fiber. In particular, legumes, whole grains and whole-grain foods offer the best health benefits.

5 benefits of complex carbs:

1. Complex carbohydrates have less than half as many calories as the same amount of fat.

2. Studies have repeatedly demonstrated that our bodies do not absorb 10 to 20 percent of the calories in many complex carbohydrate foods. This fact is especially true for starchy foods, such as pasta, bread, legumes, and rice. Ironically, these are the very foods that many overweight people avoid. Our digestive enzymes cannot finish the job of breaking down these starchy complex carbohydrate foods in the small intestine. Partially digested food passes into the large intestine where no further absorption can take place. In a sense, these are free calories!

3. Complex carbohydrate foods require a lot of energy to digest. These energy calories are given off as heat from your body instead of being stored as fat. This process is called thermogenesis, which literally means "heat-producing". When your diet is high in complex carbohydrate foods, you burn more calories as heat after a meal.

4. Starchy complex carbohydrate foods such as bread, pasta, rice, and bananas make you feel full after meal. They actually shut off the hunger message from your brain. Nutritionists call this feeling satiety. Eliminating this feeling of hunger is an integral part of weight loss

5. Complex carbohydrate foods provide the chemical links necessary to burn off body fat. In fact, if your carbohydrate intake is too low, you cannot completely breakdown your body fat. This inability makes it difficult for you to shed extra pounds.

The reason that 95 percent of all dieters regain the weight they lose, is because they're working against their bodies' metabolisms and setting the stage for long-term failure. It's not the bread and pasta you eat that makes you fat; it's the high-fat butter and sauces you put on them that do the damage. By themselves, starchy complex carbohydrates are tailor-made diet foods. It is wise to include these foods, but try not to have more than one of bread, pasta, rice or potatoes at any given meal.

That's a bit of a read but I hope clears up the misconceptions about carbs being bad for you.

Indeed Nik. Sort of like folks who think they are eating well and dieting because they eat a nice garden salad.

Neglecting to think about the half bottle of dressing they poured over it and the stuff is swimming in.

True Nik,

I should have said: cut back the simple carbohydrates — "such as potatoes and processed grains like white rice, pasta and white bread."

Wheat bread instead of white. Sweet potato, instead of white potatoes. Wild rice, instead of white rice. Whole grain pasta instead of white. These are all also good for a diabetic to eat. They are all also good for your digestion as well as being much better for you than the over processed white versions.

Basil, the thing is, diets don't really work. If you really want to lose weight, you have to change you habits. Eat better, eat less and exercise more.

Chi is also right, if you are breast feeding, be careful about cutting back too much. Though eating better will be good for both of you. As will the exercise. Put him in a stroller and take long walks. Or even better, carry him as you walk.

Above all, take care and enjoy your baby.

It wasn't so much what YOU said.
I told her to cut back on "excess" carbs.

After re-reading the thread, I thought MAYBE a little knowledge would go a long way.
The insight into health benefits, fat processing properties and what types to look for may actually make a difference.... if it's even considered.

I just wanted to make it clear it wasn't a knock on your advice. It was more to address what we both left out.

Somewhere, in the ether of time, there's an Admin kudos waiting to bestow itself upon this post.

Every time I've tried to share this particular information with a "dieter" it garner the reply of "Whatever, thin people just don't understand!"

Yeah, seems we both took a short cut. In doing so, we gave advice that, if not cleared up, could have caused more harm than good.

Every once in a while I get on tangents and make long posts filled with information that'll probably never be used anyway.

It's a quirk of mine.

As long as you know the post was made for Basil's benefit and not as an attack on your post or mine, it's a win/win.

I know what she is going thru after having a baby...thats why I said small healthy meals 6 times a day and snacks...I went from 177 after my last one to 124 in less than six months. but some people have an addiction to carbs...like cigarettes. take your time hon...it will get there. (then you can post back about omg the weight is gone but I have all this extra skin on my tummy..now what) hoot

I have some suggestions (THAT WORK)

1. EAT BREAKFAST AS SOON AS YOU GET UP! I dont want to hear (Icant do that) Anything, drink an Instant breakfast or protein shake if you have to. It's what I do. I did see a couple of ppl talking about eating lots of small meals, but breakfast is the first meal that Jumstarts your metabolism for the day. The longer you wait to eat it, the longer your metab. stays dormant.

2. Get yourself a 7 day cleanse. You can get these at GNC or any healthfood store usually, I use the ones that come with pro- biotics. They cleanse out the entire body, and are good to do at least twice a year. I usually drop 5 lbs that week. Also be sure to not eat alot of Junk food when you do this.

3. I too have done p90x, havent had time to latley, but work is slowing down & I will have more time to get back on it. Best workout system I have ever done. I THINK (if memory serves) I lost 5lbs & 8 inches my FIRST week. No joke.

4. Now something else I will add.. For women who are battleing the "pregnacy pooch" Ya know that pouch that crunches dont seem to get rid of after you have a baby.
For THAT I did a "LIPO _ VITE" shot. It's a vitamin B cocktail with something else (cant remeber) It works by detaoxing & eating the fat from the liver and other parts of the body, which in turn speeds up the metabolism. For whatever reason, THAT helped me loose my pooch. It requires drinking los of watrer though. There was a weightloss center down near where I live that did these. It was $20 per week, and it took about 3 weeks for mine to go away.

5. If YOU MUST take a pill, I HIGHLY recommend a THERMAL. Again you can get these from GNC. They DONT raise heart rates or give you the gitters. They make you SWEAT. So while you are working out you are burnng more fat. They WORK. You can start sweating cleaning the house, It' great.

6. LASTLY, treat yourself to a massage. If you are able to do this on a somewhat regular basis.. Massage Therpy is known for aiding in health. For this topic, massage regulates hormones & endorphins, ESPECIALLY the ones that slow our metab. down. (Cortisol ect) They also help to Detoxify the body, by breking up & moving toxins out to the lymphatic system, so then they can be flushed out.

Hope some of this is helpfull. Good Luck
