PLEASE READ...IMPORTANT

Yahoo is Tracking Group Members

If you belong to ANY Yahoo Groups - be aware that Yahoo is
Now using "Web Beacons" to track every Yahoo Group user. It's
Similar to cookies, but allows Yahoo to record every website and
Every group you visit, even when you're not connected to Yahoo.
Look at their updated privacy statement at
http://info. yahoo.com/ privacy/us/ yahoo/details. html

About half-way down the page, in the section on *cookies*,
You will see a link that says *WEB BEACONS*.

Click on the phrase "Web Beacons." On the page that opens,
On the left find a box entitled "Opt-Out."

In that section find "opt-out of interest-matched
Advertising" link that will let you "opt-out" of their snooping.
Click it and then click the opt-out button on the next page.

Note that Yahoo's invasion of your privacy - and your
Ability to opt-out of it - is not user-specific. It is MACHINE
Specific. That means you will have to opt-out on every computer
(and browser) you use.

Please forward this to your other groups. You might
Complain, too, but I'm not sure if anyone is listening. I
Remember when they signed all users up to get spam and we had to
Opt out of that a few years ago.

Thanks for the 'heads up' on this. Worth bearing in mind, not that I use Yahoo at all.

Unless I am mistaken, doesn't every browser and ISP keep a complete record of your every move on the net anyway ?
Also, this information, within reason, is open to any number of 'interested' parties. Not least of all the advertising people and government security departments ?

Thanks for the heads up Cop. But yeah, Stonkin' is correct. Even your browser does this exact same thing (yes, even the wonderful Firefox.). A diligent user can find the 'opt out' option on most any of these products however.

Question though. These companies offer a free service to you. One that most people have cause to use. Why do you care if they use your activity records to target adds to your tastes? I mean, you're gonna get adds any way, right? Might as well be for shit you're interested in.
(Or are y'all skeerd that Yahoo is gonna find out that you like midget porn?)

Who's this 'Stonkin' bloke then ? :heeheehee:

Also, my midget porn collection is very tasteful I'll have you know !!

Regarding targeting by authorities.
Here in 'dear ol' blighty', due to a little known E(dis)U legislative directive, our esteemed police force, and probably many other concerned people, are actively being encouraged to investigate peoples hard drives without their knowledge.

Heed this UK and E(dis)U shit well Americans, it is coming to a town near you !!

You are talking to a guy who takes pride in the 'cleanliness' of his hard drive. I don't have as much as a single unlicensed MP3 on this machine.

I do search out the 'Opt-Out' section on virtually everything I install/use however. Being a 'Link Chaser' doesn't make for suitable Ad Targeting, y'know?

But really, is midget porn a bad thing?

Yahoo has "Groups" - for instance, let's say you are into Ford Musangs, Yahoo probably has a group of people who belong to a "Group". You all share a blog, if you will, via e-mail and posts.

Apparently, Yahoo tracks that information and will sell it to companies that want to sell you Ford products, as an example

Exactly my point. So you like Mustangs enough to join a mustang group. Isn't better that you will now get mustang ads, instead of penis enlargement ads?

Wait, no, I think mustangs put you on the same list, but you get my point.
