OK , I know most of you are parents. I found out earlier this week that my one yr. old is allergic to milk , soybean , egg whites , nuts , and dogs. Have or are any of you dealing with the same kinds of allergies? Any suggestions on substitutes and what not. I have been reading alot online about these , yet I find that talking to people who have been through it or are have a lil more clear cut idea of what foods and such to use in a case like this. Your help would be much appreciated!

goat milk as an alternative. Its expensive though.

How do you know he is allergic to all? Its very uncommon. Could there be a false positive finding?

Most allergies ... well they grow out of them.

Ok have you read the back of the parmalat container? The ingredients? Its some dry milk shit that may be OK for your kid.

what about formula.... He should be coming off formula right now... but maybe keep him on it a bit longer?

Vitamins... vitamins..vitamins.... they make them as gummy worms now.

stock up on canned fruit. Always a good snack. ( I cant think of as to all that soy is in... but its not in fruit)

Oatmeal.. they make dinosaur eggs oatmeal... kids go wold for it . Also brand X strawberry& cream oatmeals .. flavored oatmeals...

thats all i have for the moment.. I'll think on it and post again if i come up with something.

The poor kiddo,I'm sure you've been living at the doctors office. That's quite a list that you have to deal with in everyday life. I wish I could be more helpful have they set you up with a dietitian to help you plan some menus?

If he's allergic to egg whites, then he/she'll also be allergic to tetanus shots and penicillin.

I was allergic to damn near everything when I was a kid...even ketchup. But I eventually grew out of it, as my parents gave a sigh of relief for running out of ideas of shit for me to eat.

The best thing you can do until that point is just avoid the things he/she's allergic to, and all foods that contain those items. Most of the time, they'll grow out of the allergies. Took me a couple years...and now all I have to show for it is hayfever.

Foods nowadays are required by law to show if they contain milk, eggs, nuts or soy, due to the fact those foods are high allergens.

And as Deems said before, you'll have to replace the minerals he/she's missing from those foods with supplements.

I believe flu shots also contain eggs. Neither of my children have food allergies. But, I have worked with a great deal of people with allergies. Make sure nurses check all immunizations for eggs before administering the injection. Once your child starts school it will be difficult. One child in my son's class sent home a note with all the kids asking to call his parents when they were bringing in snacks for special occasions so they could make sure their child brought in a snack he was allowed to eat. She also sent recipes for cookies and cupcakes that he could eat. I'm not sure if I still have the recipes, I'll look and see if I can find it. It is good that you found out at a young age... you don't have to take away the foods... you can teach as he grows and that will probably make it easier on him. Also, educate your friends, family, or anyone that may give your son something to eat.

Good luck. My one son was allergic to milk products as an infant and toddler but was able to do soy which was great because it is much cheaper than goat's milk. He is now 5 and we just have to make sure he doesn't have too much milk in a day or it bother's him. The biggest thing you are going to have to do is look at ingredient lists on everything you buy that he is going to eat because some things that you wouldn't think had those ingredients do. I would definitely see a dietitian with him and also check out Barnes and Nobles for cookbooks designed for meals with those allergies.

Ya , I have been reading labels like crazy. Seems a majority of foods contain soy. I am working on getting set up with the doc to really define the terms. It makes it hard cause I can not sub soy for milk. It is a task for sure. Thanks for the info everyone!!

The best advice I can give is to read all the labels and educate yourself and your family and friends. Most food allergies children outgrow.
