Hélio Gracie (October 1, 1913 – January 29, 2009) was regarded as the creator of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, also known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) He is the father of the world-renowned fighters Rickson Gracie, Royler Gracie, Royce Gracie, Relson Gracie.
Gracie died on the morning of January 29, 2009 in his sleep in Itaipaiva, Rio de Janeiro. The cause of death appeared to be of natural causes. Gracie had been having stomach problems a few days before when he was admitted to a local hospital in Rio de Janeiro.

In the beginnings of UFC( now called MMA I think) there were 2 superpowers. Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie. They were the best of the best in this new idea of pit fighting. They were the main events.

Royce introduced this new adapted form of fighting. Helio's version. it was submissive and powerful, kinda like an anaconda. Grab twist squeeze and strength. it was something to behold. It was a magical lethal dance that you couldnt look away from. Forget about kickboxing and bloody brawls..... he managed to get the job done and not look like his face went thru a meat shredder.

Helio created and taught Gracie Jujitsu. Royce was one of his students and thru him Gracie style of fighting had an audience.
