American Freestyle Motocross Racer Jeremy Lusk Dies After Failed Backflip
Tuesday, February 10, 2009

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica — Jeremy Lusk, an American freestyle motocross racer, died of head injuries on Tuesday after crashing while trying to land a backflip in competition. He was 24.

Jorge Ramirez, chief of the intensive care unit at Calderon Hospital where Lusk was put into a medicine-induced coma, said the motocross racer suffered severe brain damage and a possible spinal cord injury.

Lusk won a gold medal at the 2008 X Games. He was injured on Saturday when he failed to complete a full rotation while attempting a Hart Attack backflip and slammed headfirst into the dirt. Lusk crashed in almost identical fashion in the freestyle semifinals at the 2007 X Games but was not hurt.

He had a successful 2008 season, winning freestyle gold at the X Games and silver in best trick when he landed the first double-grab Hart Attack backflip. He won a bronze helmet in freestyle at the Moto X World Championships in his hometown of San Diego.

Ramirez said Lusk died with his parents and his wife, Lauren, at his side.

Lusk lived in Temecula, California.

24 is way too young, but I guess when you compete in events like this you know what your getting yourself into.

Watching that video just gave me shivers.I can`t begin to think how the significant others of these daredevils make it through each event.God bless them.

I guess some would rather just go... 'flying'

Yeah, usually when you see people land on their head, they kind of "bounce" a little. You knew that was a snap right away. I could only watch it once...

Ok guy does stunt and messes up. He goes to the ER.

So... why is it that chief of the ICU says that he definately has brain damage.... and POSSIBLY a spinal injury. Why is this guy treating him if he's not DEFINATELY sure of his injuries and the extent of them ?

Ok head injury. The brain will swell and with the swelling , you cant tell with any accuracy of the extent of damage. You have to remove a piece of the skull allow it to swell and ebb.... and then ( stop the come medicine) allow him to wake after the drug induced coma. Thats how its suppose to work.....

How does some CHIEF.. like that Chief of the Intensive Care<< meaning that he is a leader of the ICU. ..... yet they didnt say he was a doctor or nurse or anyone of any medical significance. He's a chief.... OK if you or someone you love goes to the hospital..... ya gonna see a chief? Im goin for a doc.. someone who is held to a standard of care and has much more schooling than I . WTF is a chief?

Why is a chief in the ICU? Why doesnt he know for certain what his injuries are ?
How did he die? If he's in a coma..... he is on a respirator, a machine is breathing for him . So ..... did his family decide to pull the plug? How much time did it take them to decide after this quack told them he had severe brain damage. Define severe. Is he gonna be a vegetable? Mildly retarted? OOh yeah being that your not sure of his back.... maybe paralysed?

This is what should have happened......
Stabilize him , put in coma.... transport to the US where they have fuckin doctors, not glorified chief's that second as undertakers.
