This originally surfaced during the election, but give it a read...
Barack Obama - Narcissist or Merely Narcissistic?

Barack Obama appears to be a narcissist. Scroll down for a detailed treatment.

Granted, only a qualified mental health diagnostician can determine whether someone suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) and this, following lengthy tests and personal interviews. But, in the absence of access to Barack Obama, one has to rely on his overt performance and on testimonies by his closest, nearest and dearest.

Narcissistic leaders are nefarious and their effects pernicious. They are subtle, refined, socially-adept, manipulative, possessed of thespian skills, and convincing. Both types equally lack empathy and are ruthless and relentless or driven.

Perhaps it is time to require each candidate to high office in the USA to submit to a rigorous physical and mental checkup with the results made public.

I. Upbringing and Childhood

Obama's early life was decidedly chaotic and replete with traumatic and mentally bruising dislocations. Mixed-race marriages were even less common then. His parents went through a divorce when he was an infant (two years old). Obama saw his father only once again, before he died in a car accident. Then, his mother re-married and Obama had to relocate to Indonesia: a foreign land with a radically foreign culture, to be raised by a step-father. At the age of ten, he was whisked off to live with his maternal (white) grandparents. He saw his mother only intermittently in the following few years and then she vanished from his life in 1979. She died of cancer in 1995.

Pathological narcissism is a reaction to prolonged abuse and trauma in early childhood or early adolescence. The source of the abuse or trauma is immaterial: the perpetrators could be dysfunctional or absent parents, teachers, other adults, or peers.

Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, fearsome power or omnipotence, unequalled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal, everlasting, all-conquering love or passion;

Everyone has a crappy childhood.

I didn't. I had, what I consider to be, a very good childhood.

Biggest Crock I have ever heard... If you want to put it that way then the entire world is Narcissistic. I doubt that any one person can honestly say they havent ever thought they were better than someone else for one reason or another. I didnt have a childhood to write home about either, but I do not consider myself a Narcissist.
I think its funny that the man is actually trying to do something for our country instead of sitting around with his middle finger up his ass (like our previous president) and he is considered a narcissist because he says "we", is proud of his own accomplishments, and because he didnt grow up in the "all american, christian way."
Bullshit I tell ya!!

He very well could be, but then again, i think everyone is Narcissistic up to a point.

Nah, i think hes just a regular guy that sold his soul for power like all of the other ones before him. The only thing that makes him special is he has decidedly better people skills than past presidents...well Clinton was a bit of a charmer too, but you have to be to become the president of this great land where most people vote based on nonsensical stuff like the guys appearance.

It doesn't really do any good to try to discredit him though, the people that voted for him are some of the most stubborn, irrational, moronic people you will ever meet. They'll just go on about how we need to change no matter what it takes or some such crap so they'll be able to save face.

I think that if people just stopped bashing Obama for a while people could actually have time to see what hes doing instead of trolling around defending or discrediting him. It's a pretty good distraction actually, the higher up people sure are crafty little peeholes, i'll give them that. ;)

So this doesn't concern you?

When someone in a position of power, like President, doesn't have the ability to understand people are not pawns to serve his own purposes, he becomes extremely dangerous. He is supposed to have the peoples' needs as his priorities, not his own.

Much the same could be said about Bush and no one liked what he did.

It's the nature of leadership though.

To play off of your pawn analogy, I am an avid chess player, and yes, the pawns are often sacrificed for the greater good, but I care about each and every one of them. As soon as you disregard your pawns, the King will fall.

No doubt.

Interesting how the goal of chess is take out the other person's King though. Not necessarily the pawns.

MmmHm. The most useless piece on the board. A mere symbol...
